The term “Advent” is derived from the Latin word adventus, which means “arrival” or “coming”. The season of Advent – as celebrated for centuries on the Christian calendar – prepares us for the arrival of Christmas as well as the imminent return of Christ at the Second Coming.
Every Sunday for the four weeks prior to Christmas we will light a candle during worship and focus on the themes of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. Finally, on Christmas Eve, we will light the fifth and last candle, meditating upon Purity.
We pray Advent 2019 will not only find you busy shopping for gifts or joining in yuletide festivities – but quieting your soul and reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas.
